The Wedding

by Deean G. Strecker

A stranger came to me today
and offered an invitation.
He asked if I would please attend
a wedding celebration.

"My Master has prepared a feast,
for the wedding of His Son.
Many guests were invited,
but they all chose not to come.

Now I'm told to enter the streets,
inviting those I find.
The banquet hall is ready.
Please come, it's almost time."

For the sake of the Father, I chose to go,
for my heart was breaking in two.
If He would invite a stranger,
I couldn't let Him down too.

Upon entering the banquet hall,
I was happy to see many there.
A servant was handing out garments
that the guests were requested to wear.

Patiently waiting, my mind was struck,
observing all that I saw.
The beauty that surrounded me enraptured.
I was left standing in awe.

Flowers were gathered everywhere.
Their kind I did not know.
Each had a color I'd never seen
and possessed a radiant glow.

The altar stood as bright as the sun,
encircled by a rainbow above.
Paralyzed from the warmth it gave,
I sat and was bathed in its love.

Suddenly, harps began to play,
as a man appeared in the room.
We all sat silently, and didn't move,
as we knew this was the groom.

His garments were that of whitest snow.
His eyes like the crystal sea.
I felt a pain deep in my heart
as I wished the bride were me.

"Who could capture this man's love?"
I thought, while wiping a falling tear.
I saw such love within His eyes
as He waited for His bride to appear.

With all heads turned, we waited and watched.
Our eyes were fixed and frozen.
The wedding march had started to play,
but, where was the bride He'd chosen?

Within the twinkling of an eye
the garments we had worn,
became purest white; without stain.
Our bodies were now transformed.

We stood together beside the Lamb,
as the Church, His chosen bride,
Such joy we felt within our hearts.
It was such that we could not hide.

Trumpets blew, and angles sang,
all was a joyous celebration!
And in that moment, I reflected back
I'm glad I accepted His invitation...

(Thank you Lord for giving me the vision of the Church becoming your bride...)
