See Me Not

by Deean G. Strecker

Lord, see me not for what I am,
but as I strive to be.
The image of what You created, Lord,
of Yourself reflected in me.

Although my ways are not Your own,
You desire my everything.
Many times I fail to live as I should,
bringing grief to You, my King.

My spirit is willing, yet the flesh is weak,
bringing sadness upon my soul.
To acknowledge you, Lord, in all my ways -
please help me to reach that goal.

I hunger for wisdom and all she gives.
Fill my cup, oh Lord, I pray.
Let the fruit of Your Spirit empower me
and keep me from going astray.

Please see me not for what I am now,
because one day I'll be
the image of what You created, Lord.
Yourself reflected through me.
