Our Promised Land

by Deean G. Strecker

Like those in Egypt, who served as slaves,
with hope of a promise to come,
their chains of bondage were broken
from a victory the Lord had won.

Through faith in the Lord, many rejoiced,
when that day had come to pass.
After 400 years of crying and pain,
their slavery had ended, at last.

With hearts full of song and rejoicing,
they prepared for a journey unknown,
to a land the Lord had promised to give
to those He called His own.

They witnessed the mighty hand of God
through the miracles He performed.
But, as time went by, their hearts grew cold.
His name was then to be scorned.

Why did their hearts turn from God
when He met and supplied every need?
Why did they worship other false gods
and give in to selfish greed?

Had they not complained and cursed the Lord,
a day would have come to be
when their eyes beheld the promised land;
but few were allowed to see.

The Lord only wanted their praises and love,
But His will they would not do.
After all the care He'd given and shown
they forgot what He brought them through.

Today we live in a time such as theirs,
with heaven our promised land.
Though our hearts grow weary, let our voices rejoice
as we cling to our Savior's hand.

We can learn a lesson from long ago.
Let us not repeat their mistakes.
as we travel the way God chooses to lead,
PRAISE HIM, no matter how long it takes.

For if we question the will of God,
and our hearts grow cold within,
we'll not be allowed the chance to enter
our promised land with Him.
