Jesus said, “ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:11-14)
For a Christian, these words of Christ should be some of the most exciting scriptures in the entire Bible. What a promise!!
When Jesus ascended into heaven, the church became His body here on earth to continue His works. You and I as believers have become the hands and feet of Almighty God to continue the mission that Jesus started. When you receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost, you receive the same anointing that was on Christ to do the works of God. What have you done with this power since you received it?
To do the works of Jesus Christ, we must have faith. James the brother of Jesus said, “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?” (James 2:20) How many of us have the faith to do the works of God? Did you know that Jesus is waiting for us to step forward? One preacher recently said that he woke up one morning and asked, “What are we going to do today, Lord?” Jesus answered saying, “I don’t know. Will we preach the Gospel, heal the sick, cast out demons, or raise the dead? It’s up to you, for you are my hands and feet.”
All of us want to see people blessed, and we all love to marvel at a miracle, but did you realize that Jesus is waiting for you to initiate the action? If we don’t have the compassion and the faith to open our mouths and to lay our hands upon someone in need then nothing will happen.
Most of us are too unsure of ourselves to even try to reach out to others. And, believe me, I’m preaching to myself here, too. I recently realized something though. I found that I was looking at myself and saying, “I don’t have that ability. I can’t heal the sick.” Then it dawned on me that it was not about who I am, it’s about who He is! All I have to do is initiate the action, it is up to God to provide the power to heal or perform the miracle. And, when He does, all the glory goes to Him! We get the privilege of being the vessel that God moved through and we get to see His saving power in action.
Paul told the Ephesians “Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places...” (Ephesians 1:15-20) He went on to say in Ephesians 2:6 “...And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:”
In order to have faith to do the works of God, we must know what scripture says about the promises Jesus made to us and about the authority we have been given. Those who believe have received an inheritance through the death of Christ. We have been adopted into the family of God and are even now seated with Christ in heavenly places. Christ sits on the throne of heaven; the throne of all power and authority. We have not only been adopted into the family, we have been made God’s ambassadors here on earth, and according to the promise of Jesus have authority to act in His name! What awesome power and authority we have been given! But also, what awesome responsibility we have.
Our words now have power and authority. Whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. We have authority to act in accordance with the will and the plan of God. The question is what are we doing with this awesome power.
Think about it...then do something with it.
