By Grace

by Roberta Nuzzo

I felt a tugging at my heart,
I did not note before.
Intent, I listened from the start
to rapping from the door.

A voice within called, “Ready?”
But I said, “No, not yet!”
In rhythm pounding steady,
“You’re in the Master’s debt.”

“My soul is not prepared,”
I cried, “If you will only wait,
all worldliness I’ll cast aside,
and thus escape my fate.”

Upon my knees I knelt that night
- put all my trust in God.
I’m ready now and in the light,
when Jesus gives His nod.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and dine with him,
and he with Me.”
(Rev. 3:20 NKJV)
