Gifts That Last

by Deean G. Strecker

Lord, teach me not to covet
what other people own.
Let me never question, Lord,
what seeds they've ever sown.

It's just that I get so tired, Lord,
of struggling day by day.
It seems we never get ahead,
but others find a way.

What depresses me most is seeing friends
prospering in all they do.
What I can't seem to understand,
is why we aren’t prospering too.

We've planted many seeds through time
believing in what You've said.
"Give, and it shall be given unto you"
from Luke 6:38 I read.

Please prove Your word to be true, Lord.
Show us Your word doesn't lie.
For others it blesses and prospers,
but it leaves us questioning why.

Lord, show us what we're doing wrong,
so that we in turn can be blessed.
We're falling farther and farther behind,
won't you please just give us some rest.

Its wrong, but it hurts to see our friends
gaining the desires of their heart.
Please help us not to be jealous, Lord,
from Your words let us never depart.

"I know you have need of many things,"
a still small voice broke through.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness,
and all these things shall be added to you."
(Matt 6:3 NKJV)

Material gain will never last,
though at times it seems the trend.
The gifts of God last eternally.
Only they will last in the end.
